Silverfish are attracted to starchy, carbohydrate food which is found in many household materials, including book glue, paint, and fabrics.

Hiding Spots

Your home offers silverfish numerous hiding places. They prefer dark, moist areas to lay their eggs, which resemble small white or yellow bulbs. Common locations include behind skirting boards, under and around bathroom and kitchen cabinets,  as well as roof voids.

Moisture

  • Live Specimens: Spotting a single silverfish often means there are many more lurking nearby.

  • Assess the site

  • Identify nesting sites, which may include internal areas, external areas and roof cavities

  • Apply the appropriate product for the control of silverfish, this normally means treating in the roof space and the interior. The property will typically need to be free of people and pets whilst treatment is taking place.

What should you do before  your Silverfish treatment:

Before treatment:

  • Avoid using DIY Silverfish treatment products, these can cause the pests to go into hiding, making effective treatment more difficult

  • Pick up loose clothing, stored goods etc up off the homes floor (as far as practical)
